Jason P. Garner, PE
OEM-caliber engineering, delivered directly to operators
Jason founded Clear Process Engineering in December 2015, but by then he had already spent more than a decade in process-heat engineering. He worked at Mid-South Engineering and Thermal Systems Engineering before becoming Chief Engineer at boiler OEM FSE Energy, where the team designed, fabricated, and installed biomass industrial and power boilers all over the world. A licensed Professional Engineer in multiple states and a registered P.Eng. in British Columbia, he holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and credits much of his professional growth to mentor Kelton Grubbs, whose knowledge and time investment he considers invaluable. As President and Principal Engineer, Jason serves as technical lead while driving business development, sales, and the overall direction and growth of the firm. On any given project he might be deep in the nuts and bolts of a key design or signing off as final approver on deliverables. He is deepest in combustion systems, emissions control, boiler design, and controls logic, and because process heat touches nearly every industry, his experience runs remarkably wide: building products, power generation, refining, petrochemical, pulp and paper, edible oils, sugar milling and refining, and ethanol, firing everything from natural gas and hydrogen blends to wood, bagasse, agricultural residues, and municipal solid waste across stokers, fluidized beds, thermal oxidizers, and pyrolysis reactors. He has visited more than 300 facilities across four continents, performing site audits, root-cause analyses, fired-equipment tuning, commissioning, and 3D laser scanning, and he tends to be the one pulled in to solve chronic problems that have no obvious root cause. One project he points to with pride began with a customer struggling with a high-moisture fuel: the bubbling fluidized bed power boiler CPE designed has run reliably for close to ten years, and the work grew into a lasting partnership and friendship. Born on an Air Force base in Alaska and raised in places as varied as Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Arkansas, Jason has always valued travel and the experience of different people, cultures, and food. As he puts it, the physics don't change from one country to the next, but the people applying them do, and keeping an open mind across trades and cultures is what makes a project succeed. He is based in Covington, Louisiana. An Eagle Scout active in the Boy Scouts of America since the age of seven, he fishes every chance he gets, gravitates to the mountains and the outdoors, tinkers with cars and what makes them go faster, and mixes electronic music in his home studio.
Background
Jason started his career in 2003 in light and heavy industry process engineering. He spent six years at Mid-South Engineering in Hot Springs, Arkansas, specializing in building products facilities and biomass industry work.
He then joined Thermal Systems Engineering, where he studied thermal energy design under Kelton Grubbs, PE — one of the foremost experts in thermal energy systems with over 60 years of experience.
In 2012, Jason was appointed Chief Engineer at FSE Energy in Covington, Louisiana, leading the engineering and design department for one of the country's leading field-erected solid-fuel boiler firms. He spent four years at FSE before founding CPE in 2015 to bring OEM-caliber engineering directly to facility owners, operators, and EPCs.
Jason has executed projects across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia.
